Susan Ovenden BSc (Hons) PhD
Susan Ovenden has been working in commercial
archaeological geophysics for over 21 years. After gaining a
degree in Exploration Geophysics from University College London in
1987, Susan undertook a PhD in Archaeological Geophysics at the
University of Bradford. After completing her PhD in 1990 Susan
joined GSB Prospection as their Senior Geophysicist. She moved to
Orkney in 2004 to take up the role of Director of Orkney College
Geophysics Unit. In the summer of 2010 Susan left Orkney College,
UHI and with Alistair Wilson set up Rose Geophysical Consultants.
Over the years Susan has
undertaken, and managed hundreds of commercial geophysical surveys
in Britain and Ireland.
taught at a variety of levels for a several institutions. In the
past she contributed to the University of Bradford's MSc in
Archaeological Prospection. More recently she delivered a module
on Archaeological Geophysics to students on the MA in
Archaeological Practice as well as setting up the MSc in Shallow
Geophysics for Archaeologists and Environmentalist at the
University of the Highlands and Islands. Susan has taught
geophysics to community groups, young archaeologists and
continuing education groups.
Susan has led the geophysical
component of several research project overseas including in
Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey and Easter Island.
